Tuxtla Gutiérrez, worth the visit?

Going from the coast back to the inland, San Cristobal de las Casas.

We had to make a stop at Tuxtla Gutiérrez because the distance was too long. Normally most people pass this one or stay for maximum one day. We decided that it was time for a break, and staying a bit longer at one place so we ended up staying there for four nights. It is the capital and the largest city of the Mexican southeast state of Chiapas, but at itself it isn't the most interesting place to be. However we were in luck that there were a lot of activities going on. First of all it was moments before the 12th of December, and that meant Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe. One of the biggest feasts in Mexico! From everywhere around people were coming to Tuxtla, or were passing by to go to San Cristobal to celebrate. There were festivities in the streets so happy people everywhere!

Second and the most important moment there for Jonas, was the ability to buy his drone... He was searching for it, from the moment we saw somebody in Puerto Escondido with it, but couldn't find it anywhere. Nevertheless the holy Tuxtla Gutiérrez had it! Wonder O Wonder! The boy was happy... And the extra luck, Feria Chiapas was there at the same time. Who doesn't love a bright spectacle? And if you can film it from the sky?

The other main activities in Tuxtla are:

  • Shopping, you will find an immense amount of stores, especially international ones.

  • Making a day trip to the canyon

  • Visit the Zoo

  • Check out a museum

  • And especially take time to make a stop in their parks!

Our days passed by and we went further on to San Cristobal.

So if your only in Mexico for a short amount of time there are better things to do, but you can give it a try if you're traveling slow like us.
